NuMetalManiak Posted January 23, 2022 (edited) Previous editions: 1-10, 11, 12 Well, I'm back after a decent recovery even though I still have some chest pain, shame it's not a Friday the 13th but we'll get right into our 13th edition of Guess the Map. The idea is simple, you see screenshots of map layouts from the widest pool ever that is doom content, and you're free to guess as many maps as you can. Each and every map will belong to a different wad to make things varied and interesting, and they can belong to Ultimate Doom/Doom 2, Final Doom, Heretic, commercial and non-commercial PWADs from those games, and partial/total conversions as well. As per usual, the difficulty of the guesses will grow gradually, with random spikes and thorns and whatnot, so basically a contemporary sort of difficulty curve, and I have decided to do some edits to the images to get rid of teleporter closets and such to make things a bit more interesting overall. We are however reminding you of a couple important notes: - Answers MUST be hidden in spoilers, no exceptions. If you don't use the spoiler option, your guesses won't count. - You may resort to the search bar, web pages, or whatever assistance in case you're not 100% sure of the wad and/or slot but feel like you've seen the map before. Like before, the screenshots will be accompanied by a hint for each one. A new hint for each will be revealed on January 29th and we'll spice things up a bit by adding 3-4 letters of either the WAD title or (in a twist, and only if possible) the level title along with the new hint. Answers will come by on February 5th. Let's play ball! 01. Spoiler -DON'T DEAD OPEN INSIDE, well I mean there's sure going to be some Walking Dead here. -Many hidden doors here aren't really that obvious -ADZ 02. Spoiler -A nice, familiar layout, wait are those initials at the bottom left? What for? -If this were the normal game, I would have come from Earth. But I came from Mars instead. -WOLF 03. Spoiler -A rather adventurous level that people would have to basically explore everything to get through. -It seems to contain a little of everything, a waterway, a pit, a crusher, a wide-open field, and even a section that looks like part of E1M7. -RYO 04. Spoiler -The exhibits are not only alive, but monstrous and hostile. -The two sections at the top have a spiderdemon and a cyberdemon, while the rest of the bestiary is in the other doors. -IRTH 05. Spoiler -Dashes and smatherings of red and blue, but not many lines. -No you're not hallucinating, or are you? -NE3 06. Spoiler -While familiar to those old megawad junkies, this is clearly some soldier's recreation area. -Not a sad song mind you, a soldier's recreation area. -PDOW 07. Spoiler -A "secret" level of sorts, don't be a lost soul trying to work your way around it. -This level's secret exit is in the flame. Are you a bad enough dude to make it across max damaging lava or do you need a radsuit? -DINS 08. Spoiler -Very detailed, but the astute can observe some familiar layout pieces. -It's actually NOT designed by Tormentor667, even though it feels like it could be. -KNEE 09. Spoiler -Deus Vult took some heavy inspiration from this. -Some consider it the first slaughter map. -ARES 10. Spoiler -Howdy partner, just thought I'd come in with my good ol' six shooter and have a nice ol' time in this ol' town. -The name of the town is based off of a town in Texas. -STFU 11. Spoiler -Cave and temple systems, nicely atmospheric due to the not so pollutant "Pollutants" in the background. -Made by a Japanese author -MIND 12. Spoiler -Several pieces of geometry on the west side of the map really do resemble some parts of Scythe MAP30. -Damn those bridges on the right side take FOREVER to rise up! I wanna get a good time! -RKC 13. Spoiler -Numbers, cracks, and a widely-revered author for this map. -The author decided to make this as a warm-up while doing design for another game. -PHOB 14. Spoiler -Beautiful star platforms and a cyan scape with warped areas, even the bookshelves! -All three of this level's secrets are the keycards. I wonder what they are for? -LAB 15. Spoiler -Don't mind me, just going on the streets with my viking equipment exploring an area populated by former human-like things. -For some reason I spent a lot of time in that hedge maze area to the north. A secret was there, but I kept thinking that I was going to run into a dog friend again like the last level. -GNUS 16. Spoiler -The title of this wad is an odd combination of three different words -One of the top 100 WADs of all time. -FISH 17. Spoiler -A HUGE field of grass and stone, lots of pillar hopping but lots of fun exploration to be had and not too many enemies to deal with. -Yes those structures at the edges, you can reach them. -RAV 18. Spoiler -Partially invisible hell knights? In an Ultimate Doom set? -It is at least the last level, on the edge of something. -TORM 19. Spoiler -Mind those damn turrets, especially at the north end. -Secret map -GAME 20. Spoiler -The north wall has too many cyberdemons to kill, and the exit area also has cyberdemons while you're in an enclosed space. -The east caves, where you start, are just "crackling". -ALM 21. Spoiler -Depending on your skill, you'll be racing through hordes of former humans, demons, and imps, or barons, spiderdemons, or cyberdemons. -Although it looks like a racetrack, take your time, especially with the hordes. -666 22. Spoiler -Some might find this "corridor of death" quite familiar... -Surely slaughterfest junkies would probably enjoy this one, along with a piano rendition of the original game's music. -TAR 23. Spoiler -It's not quite Hogwarts, but there seems to be something about this town that has some wizardry to it. Better bring a staff and crossbow just in case. -This was taken and put into some treasure chest later on. -ITCH 24. Spoiler -An extremely large exploratory level, with flowing currents going clockwise. You're liable to take more than two hours exploring just about everything here. -Big, ZDoomy, and earthly, but surprisingly NOT the level with the most secrets in the wad. -NKO 25. Spoiler -A map that was preserved in a compilation megawad, although the original file is said to have disappeared from the internet. -Look out for all the cyberdemons on the west side of the map behind the cages. Only things I have now are a broken right hand and a lingering chest pain but I've taken plenty of medication so I should be good.
