Here's a handy tip on how to disable PRBoom's demo progress bar!
Go to: Options > Setup > Status Bar / Hud > 2nd page > Show progress bar during demo playback = no

I've always had massive amounts of respect for the Doom community. Growing up, theres was never a game I loved more than Doom, and for years its been the only game I play. Having made maps myself as a means of giving back to the community that continually satisfies my appetite for more Doom, I have an enduring love for anyone who has done their part to keep this game relavent for so long.
Im very serious about this. Whether its conversations about mapping philosophy and gameplay, ogling at screenshots, participating in peoples projects or events, its all been very stimulating. I couldn't make this up. I have a deep and profound love for all of this. Ive literally wept thinking about Doomers who have passed away. It saddens me when I think of Doomers I've talked to who once shared the same burning flame of optimism for Doom as I have but moved on to do other things.
All the interesting talks, the hilarious shit shows, the jokes, the demos, the multiplayer, the collaborations, all of it has made everything in Doom so fulfilling to me. I've been late for work, bailed on plans, and have even fought with my wife to write detailed feedback for maps, host a podcast, help with peoples projects, anything i can do to help benefit other doomers. I don't believe I could possibly repay the community for how much good its done for me. I cant find other people who love this game like I do in my normal every day life. Theyre just not around. But they're here. Doom would just be this weird closet thing that I do alone and no one else understands. It would be this huge empty void in my life if this community weren't here.
I'm being completely up front when i tell you how much i appreciate all of you. Its ok when its not reciprocated. But on numerous occasions in the past few years Ive read more and more posts that suggest I'm really toxic for this place. Maybe its funny, i dont know. But its been feeling very real to me. People I've had great respect for consider me an enemy, people I've always thought to be friends have gone distant, and some people I've never talked to before already despise me. I don't know how many of you are serious when you make posts here that suggest that I'm not one to be trusted, but it really hurts. I don't like to be one to cry for help, but if you're not one of them, please send a message to my PM inbox. I really need it right about now.

We all know how much the lower unpegged on doors is almost an obligation but, should that flag be unchecked if the door track is a chain? Like, should the chains move alongside the door or should you still put Lower unpegged? Personally, I think it looks weird if you have the track moving alongside the door but, that's probably because I'm used to seeing/using doors that have the LU on way too much.
However, I have no problems with the chains moving when they are attached to a lowering floor (or maybe lift). What do you guys think?

Question: how can I make something not that linear but somehow enjoyable.

Optional areas are good, yeah. Always important to have a satisfying payoff to exploring an optional area, imo, so that the player doesn't feel like they've wasted their time exploring an off-shoot. Even if it's something like small like some cool scenery, or some additional monsters to kill, stuff like that.

So many people, especially around my age, have a problem with societal norms. Funny...for hating norms, they sure are trying hard to have their lifestyles become accepted as a norm.
-
I can't believe I feel the need to explain what "norms" are but basically, yeah: norms are Normalities. The ideas or ways of existing that are the average/typical ideas or ways of existing in society. Norms inherently aren't a negative thing. They also aren't some abstract idea that people would maybe like to have, or not have, like fun, or boredom. In fact, they have to exist in societies - every society has an average state of representation. Nobody with a functioning brain wishes for the "eradication of norms" (unless they're literally a Nihilist), they want for the norms of a society to not endanger people in marginalized groups. What we want to change is the attitude of normalized society, which tries to ignore and deny the fact that people/cultures/etc. who aren't the norm are repressed or suffer from violence being inflicted upon them.
People don't want to "eradicate" norms. They want to get rid of the toxic ideology of maintaining specific normalities that cause movements like All Lives Matter, Men's Rights Advocacy, or "trans people want to rape your children in bathrooms and we must destroy them" to persist in today's society.

Behold this idiot, who has aged an entire year over the previous ten days.

@Nine Inch Heels it really is just a severe lack of time, yeah. Having to miss several weeks' worth of classes around March due to illness meant I had a ton of catching up to do, and I basically did all that catching up over the last couple weeks. I'm a guy who loves his sleep, so the idea of pulling all-nighters usually makes me want to curl up into a ball and cry. When you're staring at a pile of work to do under a screaming "You will literally fail this class if you don't do this tonight" klaxon siren though, fatigue and tiredness pretty much go out of the window to be replaced with that deadly mix of panic and delusional pragmatism.

Things have been hectic the last few months as we all know, politics, life and just general things for everybody- myself included...Even if at the moment it's still the early stages...small steps you know?
Only recently have been able to be a little open about these kinds of things given the subject but thanks to others with support I've been able to at least be more comfortable...even if it's a bit at a time. This has all been kept away for years and years...so please forgive my nerves and anxious ramblings.
Basically I'm asking if it would be okay to refer to me as female from now?
For some it might be a surprise, and others maybe not so- and a few of you already know and have been awesome in helping me with said support I mentioned earlier- of course I've had it from others from a couple other places and other close friends online I've know and trusted for years...but this community is (mostly :P) awesome and I know you are very diverse and welcoming peoples!
I'm not here to poke with a stick each time or get offended if somebody forgets or gets it wrong at first- but this is more just to get this out there in the open. I'll try and answer anything if you're curious but again it's early days and there are going to be many barriers I still need to beat and overcome.
It's not fully in plan just yet...again so much I need to think about...so much to say and do...it's very difficult for me and I don't just want to, but I kind of NEED to get these kinds of things off my chest if I'm going to be serious about this.
Here is a picture of a giraffe because those are cool. Giraffes are cool you dig?
Thanks everybody and keep being amazing! <3
..it's past 6am and I need to sleep...really-

Aaaa don't do that! ;_; Actually I can be a little anal about people just calling me "Fox" ...I don't know why...it's been like that for a loooong time..it would be like calling Shadow Hog just "Hog" or Doomkid "Kid"..
Fuzzball, Fuzz, Fuzzy or the fullname I guess is fine...and noooo space! :DI've already cornered the market on fox-related descriptors, so it's good that you're not moving in on me.
In all seriousness, I'm so glad that you've found the courage to make this announcement! I'm really hopeful that making this step will maybe alleviate some of the anxieties you've been having lately, as you are definitely a valued member of the community.

I was trying to post a comment on YouTube today but kept getting some unknown error. Then I swapped "shitty ass" in that comment with "crap" and it finally got through. And that's bullshit.

I don't find the clip itself offensive.
yeah you do. you're also upset that this video doesn't allow you to have the full and final say on the matter of how repulsive you find the lgbt community are, so you feel the need to bring it to another message board on the barely-related topic of youtube comment nonsense.
but youtube are the ones who are pushing shit in people's faces. okie dokie. checks out.

Remember when this was front page on Youtube over the summer? It got slammed with backlash (look at all those dislikes). Youtube staff were censoring all the top rated comments non stop. Because heaven fucking forbid you have an opinion right? If somebody is against gays, that's their right and they better bloody well be allowed to say it. Most were pretty polite as well. Oh but look, now they've stopped comments altogether. For the record, I think these people are freaks. And I don't care who disagrees. But OOPS! Guess I should have the same opinion as Youtube! Yeah, fuck me right? You disgusting "hateful" cunt. Can't be allowed to voice my own opinion. The hypocrisy is mind blowing.
you are a gigantic fucking baby if that video is offensive to you. you are also a gigantic fucking baby if the idea of youtube monitoring comments is offensive to you.
you are fully entitled to whatever opinion you want in the realm of Actual Free Speech. youtube - a company, not a country - are also fully entitled to censor anything they feel goes against their values. they are fully entitled to remove anything from THEIR PLATFORM that goes against their values. you may think their values are fucking stupid and dumb. too bad! stop confusing censorship with a company having standards, you gibbering manbaby.
the people in those videos, and lgbt people worldwide, face actual oppression and discrimination in multiple facets of life. you can't even begin to process what that would be like, if you're so easily sent into complete meltdown over youtube promoting one random video on its front page. it happened in THE SUMMER. and you still haven't forgiven it for existing. you're really excited to tell us about its high dislike rating, as if that proves anything other than the most base and childish "WE'RE WINNING" mentality. holy fucking shit

That's right, a whole thread about the deadly stache.
The other day I was among a group of coworkers who are all into rock music and not a single one of them knew anything about Zappa, not even a single song he had written. Not one. This kind of baffled me, but at the same time, he's pretty obscure these days and was always considered pretty far out even when he was alive. I figured I'd dump a bunch of great Zappa tunes in one easy spot.
Zappa wrote some of my all-time favorite pieces. There's a big chunk of his material that simply isn't for me as it's too unconventional/'out there', but it's really quite astonishing that one dude could write in such a myriad of styles and genres. Given his enthusiasm for finding new sounds and pushing the boundaries, I suppose it shouldn't be all that surprising.
Below is a condensed list of Zappa songs I really like. The first few are my absolute favorites, and everything that follows is just a mix of stuff I can put on at any time and love listening to.
Keep in mind, humor was always one of Zappa's focal points when writing music, not just in terms of lyrics, but in terms of instrumental sounds as well. The sounds can range anywhere from rock to jazz to classical to just goofy as hell, but I love them all. At the end of the day, humor really is just one small aspect of it all. Listen to a few for yourself and see what you think:
Uncle Remus
Apostrophe'
Transylvania Boogie
Watermelon in Easter Hay
I Am The Slime
50/50
Road Ladies
G-Spot Tornado
We Are Not Alone
Dumb All Over
Heavenly Bank Account
Dirty Love
Muffin Man
Your Mouth
Bobby Brown Goes Down
Joe's Garage
Keep It Greasey
Why Does it Hurt When I Pee?
A Token of My Extreme
Harder Than Your Husband
The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing
Stick Together
Camarillo Brillo
Beauty Knows No Pain
We're Turning Again
Night School
Promiscuous
Jesus Thinks You're a Jerk
Dancin' Fool
Don't Eat The Yellow Snow
Tinsel Town Rebellion
Be In My Video
I'm So Happy I Could Cry
I'm Not Satisfied
Why Don'tcha Do Me Right?
Would You Go All The Way?
Eat That Question
Bolero (Cover)
Whippin' Post (Cover)
I could listen to a playlist of those songs almost endlessly. Of course, if you don't want my hand-picked favorites and just want to dive into some Zappa albums, I would recommend Joe's Garage, Overnite Sensation, Chunga's Revenge, Apostrophe', Freak Out!, Broadway the Hard Way, Does Humor Belong in Music?, and Sheik Yerbouti. When listened to in one sitting, Zappa's albums tend to tell a really funny, interesting or even sad story, so if that sounds appealing, maybe one of these will be up your alley.
Aside from his music, Zappa was a guy who I really respect. He valued the constitution and actively fought to defend freedom of speech, the kind of guy who would defend your right to say what you want even if he wholeheartedly disagreed with you. His albums and songs were regularly restricted from radio play and many record stores refused to stock his albums, back when they were new releases. He received constant backlash for the content of his albums, and it's extra hilarious given how tame it all is by modern standards.
Anyway, that's the end of my rant, I hope some of you get some entertainment out of it.-
I remember borrowing a couple tapes of Shiek Yerbouti and Apostrophe' from my uncle to take on a weekend school trip when I was around 11, and finding its more juvenile material the funniest goddamn shit in the world. A few years later when I was starting to practice guitar and bass I rediscovered his stuff, and was completely blown away by how musically innovative he was as a composer and performer. So yeah, listen to Zappa, y'all!

Seconding these. Also gonna recommend that people give his live albums a listen - his interplay with the rest of the band and the audience is great. Two of the first Zappa albums I ever listened to were Roxy & Elsewhere and Live in New York, and I still listen to them regularly. Those two are quintessential Zappa, I think - the perfect culmination of amazing musicianship and on-stage hijinks.

I was just watching one of the recent Tropes vs. Women in Video Games documentaries on YouTube (Women as Reward) and I was shocked at how many games assume that you are a heterosexual male and that you want titillation in your video games. In one of them, you advance in the game by browsing through copies of Playboy. All I can say is that I'm glad that my favourite game, Doom, doesn't have any of that (literal) wankery.

How are you, gentlemen!
I am having some relationship issues, so naturally, instead of talking them through with my girlfriend, I'm going on the Doomworld forum!
I've been seeing a girl for about six weeks. I really like her. She's got a kind heart, she's extremely loving and she is much more into me than anyone I've ever been out with. But it's getting a bit much. As an aspie, I am not really used to having close romantic relationships and I need a bit of space to process everything that happens when we are together. (This is not the same as the "I need space" excuse people use to end a relationship.)
In a good way, she has turned my life into a bit of a carnival, life is never dull when she's around, she is funny and quirky, it's just that she lives quite a long way from me, life can be a bit TOO exciting when she gets involved, she wants to see me a lot and she calls me several times a day. Sometimes I can't get things done because we're on the phone - she rang as I was taking my trousers down for a dump today. Our conversations can be LONG, eg 90 minutes or more, and I'm often doing something when she calls. I nearly shat myself today.
She has inspired me to get writing again and stick at it; she is going to brush up on Doom mapping to help me get my Panophobia maps done; in short, she is everything I've ever dreamed of in a woman, I just don't always feel I can hack the pace.
So is it me being selfish or a ponce? Or should I find a way to tell her I need some processing time? But how can I tell her this without upsetting her or making her think I want to split up?
EDIT: Sorry, I meant to post this in Blogs to start with.
