Attention Doom coders, DEU users, and others so interested...

I've built a was that I think had pointed out a serious bug in the Doom engine, or else BSP and DEU have a serious node flaw.

The wad is a simple grid (12 x 12 squares), and as you'll see, looking across more then 10 or so sectors seems to cause the hall of mirror effect regularly. I suspect that either the Doom engine can't look that many sectors across (does anyone know if the id levels ever look across that man at once?) OR DEU and BSP both still need a better node building algo.

  14. HALOWEEN.WAD

Halloween is just around the corner and so are the Sargents, Troopers, Imps, Demons, Cacodemons, Lost Souls and Barons.

There are definately more tricks than treats in this all new made from scratch level. There is new music, the theme from Halloween, all weapons, lots of lifts, a bunch of doors and stairs all over the place.

The level is quite large and will require using your wits as well as your weapons. There are a lot of hidden triplines that will open up new sectors (at sometimes very inconvienient times) and release even more trick or treaters.

Start as E1M1, try first without any cheats, there are adequate weapons and ammo and just enough stim packs, health bonuses and medical kits to get you through. Plays solo only as "Ultra Violent" or "Nightmare" anything else isn't really Doom.

Opening scene on Phobos; your left standing guard at the hangar door. After what seemed like an eternity of listening to the screams of your buddies over the radio, and the sounds of combat in the distance, your radio goes silent.

[BBS-description:] This is a doom add-on adventure set in an abandon military base. Nicely done.

  20. HARRIS11.WAD

My second attempt at a Doom level, and the first one which, hopefully, is good enough for Doomers everywhere to take for a spin :)

This is a small (49K) replacement PWAD for the first episode of the original Doom. Nothing too complex, no mind-warping puzzles to solve.....Just kill anything moving, score all three skullkeys, and try to get to the exit in one piece.

By the way, I hope you like my non-linear architectural style for this level...I thought it looked pretty good. Download and enjoy!! And please send feedback to me at the address above. Thanx!

  24. Hell at Home

You wake up in the morning and get out of bed (rubbing your red sleepy eyes), something's not quite right... This looks like your house, but it definitely isn't!

(There's something not quite right about that wallpaper, eh?)

You hear noises outside, they sound vaguely familar and you grab your shotgun before venturing out of you room... (huh... shotgun?) Soon you realise where you've heard those noises before, they're from that computer game DOOM(tm) that you've been playing a lot lately. THAT is what's wrong with the wallpaper! It's a wall texture from DOOM! Oh no, either DOOM has somehow become real or you're having a DOOMmare... Do you want to wake up?

Great WAD, solidly nails that fantasy castle crawling feeling, not too rough on the player nor overly stingy/generous on supplies, encourages good use of items, plenty of navigation and switch puzzles as is apt for Heretic, but also lets loose with a little slaughter.   Some areas could use slightly brighter lighting, and sometimes the next switch or door isn't signalled too well, but overall a fun and feisty fantasy fight fest.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.
