  1. I've played the Doom version of this wacky mod.... many, MANY years ago and all i can i say is: this thing is really nuts, big fun and lots of weird, wacky stuff going on here.

The sprinting work, while raw with it's paint drawn characters, is actually pretty well done, deaths are hilariously gorier with everyone turning into a blood sea after their death, some people i didn't remember them in the Doom version, like Ned Flanders. Isn't he the baron of hell replacement or i remember wrong? Anyway, the new character replacements are cool and we'll made. I don't see what changes the dehacked file. Overall, very fun mod.

A pretty good map for the time it was done, including clever usage of mazes (expect for the cave one) and teleports that gives you a small look at the final room, fun and challenging as well in the gameplay and puzzle parts.

    A must play!

  3. A pretty cool 3 maps adventure that you have to play continuously all, playing it with pistol start broke the gameplay flow. Design is a good basic style set in this big base surrounded by nukage. Lots of brutalist-like structures in the outdoors, lots of border sectors detailing in the indoors. Layout, otherwise, is a little bit more convulse to understand where to go, finding myself running in circles in the same corridors (especially in MAP01). Gameplay is somehow challenging, even to the level of jokes like the 2 spiders at the start of MAP01 and the demon horde in MAP02, but it's fun overall.

  4. Oh boy, i wonder what it is the Doom 2 version, but the Hexen remake i've played is a pretty crappy map, weird progression in Single player and way too sandbox-y to be fun, way too boring for deathmatch. Abstract and overall pretty bad looking in texturing, layout is confusing but the stair light effect is pretty neat, only good part of the map.

Finally after many Hexen maps, i've returned to the Heretic shores, yay! But is the map that i've played tonight is any good? Well...

Like the previous map i reviewed yesterday, is a deathmatch that on paper it will be a pretty neat map, with quite some attention to detailing like in the main cavern waterfalls and the overall designing, with lots of interconnections all around the place, but unluckily it's ruined by not having a truly efficient layout connections and a weak gameplay by having a some sort of strange item placement in general. But overall it's a nice map, i've expected to see open areas with sea vista and beaches due to the title instead of a cave map with lots of underground waterfalls and no oceans.

  6. Pretty good looking map in the visual parts, including some really neat light effects as well of some other cool looking touches all over the map. Too bad that the gameplay department doesn't hold with the look of the map, since is the most boring DM map i've played in a while, at least with bots. And that's a shame!

  7. The Leaf Well..

A pretty fun map with a pretty well done texturing and theme usage, maybe the layout is too symmetric for modern standards? Overall, a very enjoyable experience.

  8. A map based upon a previously reviewed map "Hexen Morgue" with better layout and thing placement overall, but doesn't have the trident in the original map, kind of disappointing since i wanted to see that, it was the only nice part of the original map. There's two missing floor textures, missing textures for the surprise crushers and a player spawn in the ending room whit no exit? WTF? Overall, a nice change from the original.

  9. It's a PIG!

Small, extremely frantic map perfect for 2-4 players action, fun premise and cool layout even if a little bit symmetrical for my tastes. The teleport spawn in the upper section of the arena are a camper-fest, unluckily. Maybe enlarging a little the map and make the teleporting spawn more open it could be better.

Also, is this the first review for this map? Incredible!

A pretty unfunny DM map in a misplaced directory. Extremely basic layout and the crushers attack are... kind of interesting but mostly meh. SP gameplay is pretty challenging as printz said, but still unfunny for me.

  11. Castle Of Defeat

       14

A pretty good Hexen map for 1995, with a simplistic but effective layout sets in a small citadel structure surrounded by misty sloughs filled with those green mermen, the bridge that connects the citadel to the external world as been broken and you have to find a way to escape the citadel. Exploration and puzzles parts are strongly present, especially the explorative side. Monster placement is well done as well as item placement are been mixed nicely. The secret parts (using fake library walls) are a nice touch. Cool and pretty enjoyable map overall.

  12. City Of Despair

Not a bad map, despite it's rawness in layout parts. Fun map with some interesting special effects, especially for the final part of the map. Good gameplay flow as well.

  13. Batman Forever

       8

A small and frantic map for deathmatch that unluckily doesn't got me too much into it. Single player placement is a joke.

The only interesting thing i can think are: Why a Batman Forever map, over the fact that shares the music with a Dwango compilation (maybe Dwango 5) by U2, used as well in other doom maps of the time? That's the only piece of correlations between these two franchises i can think of, actually.

    Spoiler

OT but Bono Joker looks like the best forgotten Joker as well as Batman orchestra.

That musical video is really cool looking.

The second thing that i was thinking is: you known that exist another deathmatch map based upon batman years before the more well known Batman total conversion by ACE Team? Isn't this crazy?

  14. The Salt Mines

       28

A big, squarish couple of maps sets in some sort dungeon place with some abstract looking caverns (one sets in a small canyon and the other in a cramped ice cavern) and having the most infested swamps i've seen so far in Hexen, near to a level of complete ridiculousness. Also includes some pretty weird choices

Also, the exit can't be activated for some strange reason in zandronum.

Not a fun or good level, neither the really rare good parts like the staircase and the lighting works can save this map from being just not that good imo.

A small couple of maps based especially on scripted encounters like in a style that make me remember of zdoom maps, cool! The starting room have some nice details, but the quake script (that kills you instantly, why?) and the fact that this map have maybe too many dark little dragons around that will kill you istantly and the maps itself aren't looking that professional, but for a map made mostly for trying scripts is a cute map. Enjoyable experience!

  16. My Kingdom

       12

Not a bad map, pretty large and the circular "tower" structures are cool, as well for some special effects like swirling doors and secret rooms activated by pushing various walls, i liked the detailing in the dining room!

But the progression unluckily is kind of cryptic and you can get lost easily. Also the not flying dragon\wyvern monsters that keep screaming in place is pretty annoying. But overall, a cool map.

  17. Hexen Keep

       22

A small and fun map sets in a little fortress place, really sadistic start in SP with... that annoying centaur guy who i don't remember it's name at all, the one with a shield you know? Anyway you're been hit instantly by this dude without any waning, who can be so sadistic? The Spiderdemon, here's who.

The deathmatch play is much more fun, lots of goodies, maybe too many of them. Especially for the dark servant. But overall, a fun map.

  18. HEXEN HAVOC

       3

A pretty good small map from deathmatch with a neat layout taken from a Doom 2 map, the layout and the fell strongly reminds me of Dwango maps. Very good stuff!

  19. GATEWAY TO HELL

       8

Good looking small map sets in a... village? Keep? Whatever, some square-ish place with good use of textures, but not a fun map for SP since doesn't have a exit and the only exit-like portals are trolling you. Nothing expectional in DM too, despite the layout will make you think of that type of gameplay.

  20. HexFall

       2

A simple arena sets in a big room where some pillars are connected by magical floating bridges to the central point, where some "disc of repulsions" are, pretty closer to the central point. No guns or anything over that. Don't fall down or you'll find certain death! Even if in the depths of the are some items waiting for you for some reason...

Bots in zandronum falls to their death like they are some kind beefy fantasy lemmings lol.

A little OT trivia: do you know that the first user made map i've played of Duke Nukem 3D it was pretty similar to this map? Only sets in a void like structure and more rectangular in layout terms, and with rocket launchers as guns of choice for... kill myself, since i didn't had internet connections at that times?

  21. HEXELENT

       41

A pretty great map, especially for it's age. Lots of neat detailing and realistic places style when possible. Too bad it's been ruined by the ass-holish traps all around the maps.

  22. A pretty nice map with some nice detailing like sector furniture but ruined by some pretty bullshit parts like missing keys (at least, i didn't find any during my play nowhere) and some parts looks to be broken like a way to open the exit door, also why putting a wyvern already roaming at the start? It's like somebody put already 2 spider masterminds already at the start of a doom map, pretty much a dickish move imo.
