[complevel-9/Boom] Irkalla - An 11-map WAD for Doom II (/idgames link active!)
NightFright replied to Phobus's topic in WAD Releases & Development
If you are playing on GZDoom, you can use a mod called 10.5x to reduce mob density without breaking the maps. -
Endless Random /idgames WAD Adventures #061
LadyMistDragon replied to ICID's topic in WAD Discussion
Blood 'n' Guts Part 2 (1995) by David M. Davila (Crispy Doom) From the dark days of '95 once again comes this rather formless and uncohesive collection of areas with a vaguely similar theme. Thankfully, it's not just lots of passages twisting around each other in such a fashion that navigation becomes impossible (with one exception near the beginning). There's a central hub that links all the different areas, as it happens, but there's nothing interesting, other than some random damaging rooms, massive mobs of spectres that greet us in pretty much all the darkened mobs, disorganized mobs of other enemies, and gameplay that I'd half-swear Eric Harris took inspiration from with UAC Labs with all the darkened passageways and the ridiculous ammo drought in most locations. That series of caves is the worst thing ever Worst off is getting softlocked in that stupid room with the BFG. 2/10 -
When did 'mob' come to mean 'monster'?
Dreemurr Deceevurr replied to Hellbent's topic in Everything Else
Funnily enough until I read this thread I thought "mob" was a shortening of "monster object". -
disco elysium's incredible for its writing, its mood, its new character system. ten out of ten game! but there's not many trash mobs to clean up giggle
-
The Godson. Basically this ridiculous and oftentimes quite stupid mob spoof that throws in a Bill Clinton impersonator admidst a West Side Story-esque main plot point and you'll have an idea what it's about!

Post Your Opinions About Doom (Whether Controversial or Not)
URROVA replied to baja blast rd.'s topic in Doom General
yeah this opinion is so controversial... romero's head is the best mob -
I have my own version, when I see them, I generally identify them as : Former humans = Trash mob Former sergeants = "Son of a b***" (don't ask me) Heavy Weapons Dudes = Sniper Demon = Melee Spectre = Melee/ghost Imp = Mage Cyberdemon = Boss Revenant = Skeleton/missile Cacodemon = Fly Pain elemental = "Oh no, I need to focus them" Lost Soul = skull/trash mob (like former humans) Spider master mind = Boss (like cyberdemon) Arachnotron = Spider/brain Archvile = Caster Mancubus = Flamethrower Baron of hell = red baron Hell knight = green baron

Mick Gordon unlikely to work on another Doom game after Eternal’s OST release
indigotyrian replied to Man of Doom's topic in Doom Eternal
You can't just say things like "Mick incited a hate mob" or "Mick slandered id" without actually pointing to Mick inciting a hate mob or Mick slandering id. If you want people to take you seriously you need to back up your claims. Otherwise you come across as another person who is using the guise of "well, both sides have a story" to cover up the very real abuse and mistreatment Mick faced while working on Doom Eternal. -
Seems easy enough. Just replace the regular sprites with non-demon sprites. Voila.. same game, different mobs.. there's your answer.

It's a mob cap, not a shower cap =P On topic: Very excited Iron Lich

Well, the wiktionary tells us this: An early MUD? Richard Bartle has created MUDs since 1978, when he along with Roy Trubshaw created the very first MUD, the one that gave its name to the entire genre. Now since this is a genre that's older than me and since I've never really been interested in multiplayer games, I don't know if the terminology "mob" was there since this 1978 MUD or not. It would take a game historian to check. Anyway it's not surprising that it would be used in Angband, since AFAIK that game is a MUD. But then we have this: So this was already established video game lingo in 2002. I'll also point out, in passing, that in Doom we also have the term "mobj" which is unrelated to mob: it comes from "map object". Any mob is a mobj, but a mobj is not necessarily a mob.

I've really only seen mob used in this context in Minecraft. Most other games call them monsters or enemies.
-
Thank you very much :) I already planned on it being only GZDOOM compatable as seen with lighting... I hope I don't get a purist mob outside my house
-
That makes sense. I suppose it could still be used without an attack animation, as a mere annoyance (a mob of them blocking the way) or as an alternative for the innocents.

Infected Flesh - Newbie map
LadyMistDragon replied to Palindrone's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Not bad! Thought besides the proliferation of ammo, that mob that greets the player when in front of the marble castle felt far too sudden and to be honest, existed more as an intimidation tactic than anything because it really wasn't that difficult to handle. Video below -
Mick Gordon unlikely to work on another Doom game after Eternal’s OST release
MrHofmann replied to Man of Doom's topic in Doom Eternal
1. As I said, I will not prove the existence of the Moon. 2. I did not say "Mick incited a hate mob" or "Mick slandered id". I said Mick unintentionally incited a hate mob and Mick slandered id by implication. 3. I'm not arguing that there are two sides (or three) of the story. There is only the truth. 4. Where is your evidence that Mick was mistreated while working on Doom Eternal? 5. If you want people to take you seriously you should do your own research, instead of expecting others to do it for you. -
I mentioned before cases where the new AI makes the game easier; here's another, quite silly one. In the Cooling Facility there is a water-filled room with two platforms you can ride up to a balcony around the top of it. Some monsters roam the balcony, including some Berserkers. With the old AI they stay at the top and mob you when you come up. They can knock you off the balcony into the water, and mob you again if you come back up. With the new AI they jump into the water at you, and drown themselves. It's because of things like this that it's desirable to have an option to revert to the classic AI and gameplay. Sometimes things are removed for a reason.

What's a trope/ trap although over used... you still absolutely love?
Dusty_Rhodes replied to Gougaru's topic in Doom General
Add some FIREBLU for the old Jimmy Exit© It's a classic. A personal favorite trope for me is empty room that immediately has walls lower revealing mobs after you walk in. I missed @Stupid Bunny's comment. Basically exactly what he said. -
Mick Gordon unlikely to work on another Doom game after Eternal’s OST release
Murdoch replied to Man of Doom's topic in Doom Eternal
100% this. This is why I am not impressed Mick posted what he did. However much you have been wronged, he put people who had nothing to do with it in the firing line. Now the odds of any one of these Internet idiots actually following through on any of their death threats is pretty much zero, but it's still seriously unpleasant and stressful to have to hear and deal with. It doesn't matter he said "hey guys please don't attack anyone". Telling an Internet Mob not to Internet Mob is like saying "Hey water, please stop being wet". -
Be careful with those hot takes, or you might find a mob of angry Trekkies at your door... (/joke)

Knee deep in 2023: Now on Idgames!
nicolas monti replied to nicolas monti's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Thanks bro, I thouth I would take some more time but things happened very fluidly with this one, arbeit E1 maps take less playtesting time (Te hablo en inglés así no se ponen locas). A bit more of testing by the mobs and then up to idgames.
