SECRET BOSS FIGHT AT THE UNHOLY CATHEDRAL. (THIS ONLY WORKS WITH THE ORIGINAL DOOM.EXE ON VERSION 1.666!!!)

To summon this secret and powerful boss, YM, you will have to play DooM at 3AM and make the following steps in 666 seconds (11 minutes 6 seconds) before it becomes 4AM

  1. Make a batch file to start Doom with these parameters "-warp 3 5 -skill 4". This will load the game at the level Unholy Cathedral on the Ultra-Violence difficulty.
  2. Kill all the monsters, collect all the items, and find all the secrets in less than 666 seconds but:
    - DO NOT ENTER TO THE ROOM WITH THE PLASMA GUN, LEAVE IT FOR LAST.
    - DO NOT USE ENERGY WEAPONS UNTIL YOU COMPLETE ALL THE REMAINING STEPS.
  3. After you killed everyone, collected and found everything else, go to the plasma gun room and kill and pick all the remaining goodies.
  4. Go to the impaled body in front of the red inscription at the top. Bump into it and center yourself to the stick as much as possible.
  5. Go back until you bump the wall behind you.
  6. Start shooting the impaled body until you deplete your ammo.
    - IT TAKES 25 SECONDS TO DEPLETE 300 SHOTS OF CELLS, SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 25 SECONDS LEFT TO REACH THE 666 SECONDS MARK TO START SHOOTING
  7. When the last shot goes through the body the secret boss will spawn.

I don't want to spoil it but that boss is

My favourite part of Doom is when Doomguy says "It's Doomin' time" and then he Dooms all over everybody

I love how TAG 2 made a reference to this when Doomguy killed the Dark Lord.

What an awesome reference!

-The episode select screen in DOOM 2 actually uses the same graphics as DOOM, but only in the DOOM 3 version of the original alpha due to a linedef overflow that occurs when launching an unregistered version of Ultimate DOOM. In the shareware version, this is only noticable in E4.

-The songs that Metallica performed for the game are still used in many community .pads

-When you hear John screaming Adrian's name at the end of the movie, it was actually dubbed in post-production.

-WhackED was the first person to recieve the Mormeth award, even though he's actually a Buddhist.

-The ingame compass was actually broken upon the game's release, and wasn't patched until after the Jaguar version of DOOM 3 was released.

-Equipping the blue armor while over encumbered will not slow the player down. This is due to a rendering bug.

-Sometimes when the chaingun is reloaded, a cartridge from the machinegun will fall to the ground. This only happens when the hardware rendering feature is checked alongside "show all details".

-When flying the VISPLANE, there is a glitch that will cause the rendering engine to play the pistol firing sound repeatedly until a restart is performed.

-NOCLIP does not prevent the intro video from playing, this is due to a bug with the .avi files the game uses getting corrupted due to a bad update.

Sorry, I haven't played this game yet but I know a lot of trivia about it.

The whole reason Scythe was such a turning point in PWAD history was because every single ZDoom wad at the time (plus Nimrod, which used Legacy instead) had a "power's down, go restore the power" sequence to showcase what was possible with advanced scripting, then Map14 of Scythe was all "you can do that in vanilla" and everyone else was like "oh"

Trent Reznor got his start composing midis that acted as just a preview of the full songs he wanted to compose but didn't yet have the means to do so. He submitted these for use in the DWANGO series of wads, and id was so impressed that they gave him the means to compose tracks for Quake that matched his artistic vision. Shortly afterward, he finally released the proper versions of his DWANGO tracks, and paid tribute to id by naming his new band after the "NIИ" symbols that appeared in E4M1 of Doom and on ammo boxes in Quake. id would later remove the symbol from later versions of Ultimate Doom and admit they didn't know why they put it there in the first place.

if you stand in the middle finger of slough of despair (doom e3m2) for 5 hours, a 69th sector will appear. if you walk into this 69th sector at 3 AM (0300 hours) the Petersen Apparition will appear, and will lead you through a crate maze that will leave you confused, with a permanently altered fashion sense upon exiting the crate maze. Do Not Walk Into The Hall Of Mirrors After This!!!! unless you want to infinitely see yourself wearing suspenders. the suspenders can only be removed in person by the flesh-bound sandy petersen, Just Another Trick And Trap!

After the tremendous success of Doom ID was was still working on Doom 2 and they also had American McGee and a few other new joiners arrive for the handful of newly planned franchise titles. So at a certain point getting more equipment started to be a problem, as NeXT machines were used for development but the studio also needed PCs for play testing in DOS. Not only was that costly on its own, the exaggerated amount of equipment took up a lot of real estate space threatening to force ID to relocate. An idea Donna had everyone bought on was that since almost everyone had 2 machines to work on, they could at least save on keyboards, mice and other peripherals simply reusing the NeXT pieces with their PCs.

Now while that worked great and helped team focus on getting all planned features into Doom II on time instead of scrumming together to find a solution to the space/budget problem, there turned out to be an interesting twist to this. You see, NeXT keyboard circuitry and PC BIOS when operated together worked just fine for the most keys, but for one - right Shift key - produced an effect of button perpetually being being pressed/released. This was ok for playtesting and even sped up the things with Doom II readiness by a another couple of days, and thankfully no damage was done to the keyboards this way.

It was only when players started to receive their copies that the scale of the horrible omission became apparent. Luckily community figures came to the rescue swiftly, who after getting a hint on the root cause from Romero himself via message boards, developed a TSR (now sadly lost in the vastness of usenet) that via careful emulation of NeXT keyboard behavior with a conventional PC keyboard, finally allowed the players to grab the red key and get to level 3 of the game.

ID actually planned to introduce an artificial assistant code into the game that would pretend to the game engine player was pressing right Shift exactly at the required moments, even if player was not. However by the time Carmack had time to work on that, people were almost exclusively playing DWANGO maps and community-produced WADs and that no longer felt as a necessity and was thus cancelled in favor of some early Quake work.

That "undiscovered secret" in Doom 2 where you have to force yourself into the sector by colliding with a Pain Elemental was definitely intentionally designed that way and not at all a case of a sector that's too small for the player to stand on being marked as a secret and level testing not really shooting for 100% secrets. As we all know, there are no Doom IWAD maps that contain any errors such as inaccessible secret sectors, monsters stuck inside walls or other things, or door tracks that crash the game.

To achieve true ending of Doom 1 where you actually rescue Daisy and prevent the Earth invasion, you must complete the secret levels in particular time ( 4 min 20 sec ) and collect each item in invidual order.

The ending was later patched out in The Ultimate Doom as it was regarded obsolete, but you can still find it in Vanilla DOS Doom.

Doom 1 was planned to have a hidden Ms. Pac-Man secret level as a "sequel" of sorts to Wolf3D's Pac-Man secret level, but this was axed the moment John Carmack used his powers to see into the future and discovered the eventual royalty issues that would concern Ms. Pac-Man in the late 2010's-early 2020's

So that the microwave would hide the basketball.

When John was too old to play b-ball, he put the ball back in the microwave and turned on the power. It was one of those really deep moments that only made sense if you were there to see it, like I was. I don't know how to put this, but I'm John Romero's father.

In psychotherapy, starting around the mid-nineties, when The Plutonia Experiment was released, there is a term called "slaughter syndrome". The syndrome has various unclear symptoms which is still poorly explained from a pragmatic point of view, as well as it's hard to say where the origins of it come from.

Some conspiracy theories suggest that ever demons were involved into. Some of them tells that things partly started from the ancient object called "The Ribbik's Cube". They say it belonged to some very sophisticated master, the one, who has seen many unsual worlds. The owner of such, as well as his environment, could gain access to other dimentions. But there was a catch - for some of them it will be guilty pleasure, for others, whose thoughts were impure - pure hell.

In the most severe form the possessing folks often operates in terms that are understood only by a selected few. In particular: "UV Max", "Pistol Start", "No Saves", "Fast Monsters", "100%". Sometimes they can be randomly triggered on the doomworld forum, especially if somebody tells that he "like exploration parts", "usually plays on Hurt me plenty" with "Save option before each complex fight" / "1 time per 5 minutes", "Plutonia was overrated" and etc.

Original Doom was done for kids, Doom II was done for money, while only Commander Keen series were developed for true hardcore folks that wearing a mustache.

Director's Cut version contained metal sound track as well, but never hit the public market. Such version is just as rare today as original box version of TNT without yellow key bug (yes, such one really exist).

Doomworld is community of casual players who likes teddy bears and hares.

Doom 2 is actually called Wolfenstein 2. The "secret" levels 31 and 32 are actually the original intended levels for the game, and the other 30 levels were meant to be the actual secret levels. However, due to a bug within development, the map order got fucked up and Doom 2 as we know it was the result.

TeamTNT actually made Doom, but then TeamTNT bought id out, and used id to publish everything, and TNT was supposed to be doom 1, but they deemed it too advanced for 92, so they had id make doom in 93, and only decided to release TNT as shareware, but then id secretly made a deal with the casalis to make tnt commercial, but the casalis had to make up for Mill, so they made a wholly new wad to go along with it.
