  1. Proxima Centauri

       27

A pretty good city map sets in this little village that somehow resemble a compact version of Downtown (and Plutonia MAP10 "Onslaught" in the level flow), is not at levels of other's map by this author Rigel I in layout and details term, but is still pretty entertaining. Also the new sky is pretty rad, a dark erupting volcano in the night. The mission impossible midi is...ok, fits the map but unfortunately plays one time and time only (at least in gzdoom), for some bizarre reason. Fun map overall.

  2. It's probably me going insane, but this a hilariously epic wad. If i'd found it in one of the various (rare) CDs that contains some doom maps in 1997/8 it could been one of my guilty pleasures.

I've expected some crude and stupid wad and... it's what i've got, even more!

Where in other wads did you ever find yourself been Dirty Harry fighting demons and nazis in the most squarish castle ever where sometimes the reality crushes itself with broken door sectors that open a void dimension in the map, all when "You can throw your hat" by Joe Cocker (yeah, THE striptease music from 9½ Weeks) is blasting out at surprise after a little moment of silence in the map, that genuinely made me smile for all the map. Sure, the map itself is also not really that bad as the other reviewers and the low vote of 1 star, despite the extreme rawness and all the mapping errors and bugs have some small nice designs like the deep water pool with a blood fountain near it and the exit computer room is kinda cute. Overall, a bad map as a serious effort, but a fun jokewad in the right mood and state of mind.

Turn this map into one of those meme review chains of bad wads if you dare, you nerds! DO IT!

Btw, where is Al Capone in this map?

  3. Not so great looking visually (these maps have their flaws, one of all the full bright rooms), but the layout are pretty well crafted by counterpart. A fun 3 maps level with some pretty good looking rooms, especially in MAP02.

  4. CHURCH of DOOM ][

       157

A medium sized map sets in a sort of church surrounded by burning men, graveyards and other type of stuff around. The level is simple but fun to play, both in SP and DM. Same simplicity reflects in the detailing work and fell.

  5. CITADEL ][

A wooden and metal structure that also have some prisons, hidden locked doors as normal textures and everything here is brown, very brown. Overall a fun map with a fun gameplay and a spooky atmosphere, especially thanks to the music. Cool stuff.

  6. A pretty intricate and fun to explore map sets in a semi-realistic castle with lots of secret passages, doomcute "realistic" furniture that even include a library made out of sector art stuff. The fact that this is a Retextured Doom map is shown greatly here. Pretty neat map, the only real breaker is that this map have a unused red skull key and other keys for the locked doors (blue and yellow keys)? At least i didn't find them. I had to noclip trough them for complete the map. If it could not be for this bug, it will be a great map. But overall, is pretty good. The baroque music is fabulous. Make me think of women in dress and huge wigs dancing in the marble throne room! Or demons in this case.

  7. C'mon, is not that bad! There's so much doomcute here that i'll think that i start to have diabetes from all the sweetness lol. Even if big part of the movies are all "Oh My Goddess!" with wrong titles as well for the, the textures a cute cartoony design, even if pretty flat sometimes. The techno midi is awful. Overall cute map.

A fun trivia: iirc in the movie "7 doors of death" aka "The Beyond", near the end the main characters tries to escape from zombies (or they are possessed ghouls? I don't remember) and every time they using 3 shoots in total for all the time, using a revolver. Also that guys have a black and red mimetic like dress, like a certain monster in a certain game....

Not sure to talk about this map on the Wadarcheology thread since i'm pretty sure it's pretty well known around there, even with only one wrote review by Doomkid? However, this is a pretty good map sets in the famous Enterprise starship from Star Trek: The Next Generation, new graphics, sounds and cute sprites of crew inmates, the work done is pretty admirable, too bad that there's no exit (at least i didn't find it)! However, a pretty cool partial conversion!

  9. Fire Storm

Not bad, the premise of choosing your own combo of guns is pretty cool and visually the map is nice. T recall that his map was more harder in my youth, but it's not really challenging with only 70 monsters in the map on HMP. Also the map can be finished fast if you find the secret exit.

A really good and quirk Doom map with lots of new textures (that are the best part of the wad), some ideas ahead of their times (like the fake 3D bridge made out of composed textures, that left me speechless!) and a great interconnected layout with a fun gameplay, make train reviews from these kind of maps instead of the more meme-y ones!

    Totally recommended.

Do you like misaligned fractal tech bases sets in the most cramped place you can think of and adding to it lots of secrets, clunky progression, death pits in middle of a maze and broken doors? This is the map for you, otherwise avoid.

In all seriousness is not that bad, especially E2M1 is kinda cool and E2M2 is interesting for the concept at least, but the problems above doesn't make it a good effort for me, just a ok map with a very weird progression.

Some great maps, some are too sadistic for modern standards (both in a good and bad way) and few other are real garbage, like MAP04 and MAP12. Overall, a nice wad and a kinda unknown entry of Dwango series. Theme also reminds way more of Brit series, with the heavy usage of brown bricks and grass, natural textures.

  13. Top quality midis for a awesome classic megawad, some music sounds like a castle adventure meets a pirate world that is a really neat stuff, some techno-like midis and the groovy DOOMin' complete the pack with good musical stuff. Just a pair of tracks are kinda boring while heard on loop, but they are just a pair.

  14. Clickbait

       37

A bland jokewad parodizing somehow the clickbaiting youtube videos based upon videogames half-assed "facts" like "If you play BRUTAL DOOM at #3 AM while drinking #SODA, you'll open a hell portal that spawn PEWDIEPIE that gives you a KISS TO THE CHEEK, a caress and 10000000 $ in FORTNITE MERCHADISE!!!!!1!1!!"... yeah that type of videos.

However the Doom representation of this phenomenon is just a large picture of some sensational stuff, the floor lowers while hearing The Demons from Adrian Pen SLOWLY just for showing a "please subscribe" epileptic animation wall, then when you reach the wall, a monster closet opens working as a jumpscare filled with screaming commenters / revenants. Bah.

  15. FLORCEIL.WAD

It's.... a interesting tutorial / prefab map at least, showing all the new floors and ceilings in Doom 2.

Just lying, best map ever. Skillsaw, download this and see how real maps are done.

  16. A rectangular techbase with some hell influences, layout make me think of a DM map, gameplay is kinda garbage with monsters all around the place in very random way and with a very cryptic progression that is the part that make me get out from here before finding the exit, the only thing that is interesting is that the teleport pads uses the BFALL textures instead of the usual SUPPORT3. Skip this.

  17. Another great installment of "The Way ID Did" megawads, this is a really good classic maps where the style of original mappers is been mimicked very well, for having the really good stuff you have to wait, but when you get it, you'll enjoy it a lot! Also congratulations for finally giving "The Chasm" justice (don't worry, since MAP24 is again the "lower" point of wad, but the gimmick aren't that weird like in the original Doom 2, trust me) with it's MAP28 "The Abyss". Lots of cool maps and some shining gems. The Coomander Keen secret maps are a fancy surprise.

  18. SKUNK.WAD

A short map with a open layout that feels heavily DM in spirit (maybe it was created for this purpose) but with the addiction of monsters, keys and little interconnections around the map. Pretty cool.

  19. DooMNukeM

       49

A really impressive (for the time) remake of Duke Nukem E1L1, with new graphics, sounds and music. Lots of great detailing where the explosions hole and the sloped ceiling/floors are, lots of new textures (including the dancing girl movie at the cinema!), small sectors elevators where the jumping sections are and lots of clever ideas and trickery to emulate the Duke Nukem 3D feel at best under the vanilla limitations (even if i've got a small VPO at cinema area)...

    Great stuff.

Layout looks pretty cool, recalls a lot of DWANGO and Greenwar maps!

I wonder why nobody reviewed it until now, is a cool map!

A pretty good layout for a fun dm map, unluckily screwed from inescapable death pits, a chasm-like catwalk in a dark room that leads to a juicy bfg and a not really great usage of weapon spawner
