What are your top 10 most beloved video games?

I'm curious what the tastes are among the users of Doomworld. I actually only recently realized Doom 2 would currently be in my top 10. I've been playing Doom levels at random and everything that comes up is just golden.

#10: There's honestly so much stuff I want to name here that I can't pick just one...

 

Even this list feels wanky because it changes depending on the day. As a rule of thumb, my favorite series are Doom, Mario, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Rush, GTA, even stuff that I used to love but don't play at all these days like Super Smash Bros, Oblivion, old NES stuff like Marble Madness, Castlevania, etc deserves a mention. Anyway I'll cut it off here, it's a decent representation of my tastes either way.

Wow, picking 10 beloved video games can be difficult, but here we go....

 

First of all, my most beloved game of ALL TIME goes to... *drumroll*.... Unreal [Gold Edition]! Seriously, if I could only choose 1 video game to play for the rest of my life, it would be this one. I love it to be pieces! The music, atmosphere, graphics, monster A.I, weapons.... it's just.... it still awes me to this day. A favorite since childhood to now!

 

As for the other 9, in no particular order....

 

Star Wars - Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II + Mysteries of the Sith

Tekken 5

Rollercoaster Tycoon

DOOM 1&2 + Final Doom

Doppelganger: Dawn of the Inverted Soul

Streets of Rage

Steins;Gate

LEGO Star Wars

Diablo + Hellfire

 

Honestly I could probably list even more wahahaha, but those are the ones that come to mind when I think of most beloved game. But honorable mentions; Golden Axe 1&2, Re:Alistair++, Coffee Rush, Battlefield 1942, Lunar Legend, FATE series, Icewind Dale, Bejeweled 3.

These games will most likely not be in any specific order compared to their immediate neighbours, but the overall gradient should be indicative of my preference.

I had to cut down from a list of 20+ games to fit it into a Top 10, so I had to make some tough calls.

 

I'm not sure how I should feel about Planescape: Torment considering all the stuff that we learned about Chris Avellone. The game is amazing, but the guy in many ways isn't. I still included it because of the utterly entrancing atmosphere and the most unique and interesting characters in any video game.

 

It might be odd that I've omitted all the Doom games from this list, but ultimately my enjoyment of Doom and Doom 2 comes from the moddability and creative output of the community. The game itself does not have the same emotional impact as the rest of the set, and while I could probably safely place it in my Top 20, I can't with good conscience put it in my Top 10.

As for me, I wouldnt be sure about ranking them, but here it is. I would do it on the saga side tho, I cant choose a particular one from any saga that I dearly love, feels like betrayal.

Dishonored 2 - tough one as inferior story and characters to the first + xpacks, but better game overall

Monument Valley - slightly dubious as not even slightly replayable, but such a great experience the first time round

ok, no order but the order I remember them..

- classic Doom (Imma do like Bio over there and include doom 1,doom 2, community levels, ets)

- Quake 3 Arena

- Tekken 3 (I played so many hours of it!)

- Torchlight 2 (or Diablo 2, but I think I played more TL than Diablo and the small QOL improvements make it a better favorite)

- Arcade Volleyball (what? I really like it! not many 2 player games I like as much as it)

- Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 (the only real contender to AV in the "games I play with people" category)

- Nethack (and derivatives, although I haven't played much of it in ages I used to and can still waste a few hours on it when ever I start a game)

...

And I can't remember many more... There's also the Zeldas (LTTP, and Ocarina mostly) which I really like but they are games you play once a couple of years and not something I can play whenever, Hearthstone that I play on the cellphone but mostly because there isn't a good classic Magic TG game for it (that I know of),  Flashback that suffers from the same problem as the Zeldas (and Blackthrone and the original Prince of Persia, the three side-scrolling platformers I like).. 

 

Mostly when people ask me what games I like to play I reply that I only play classic doom and quake 3 and it's not much of a lie :D

1) Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 (part of it owes to Mental Omega)

3) StarCraft 2

4) Ion Fury

5) Mass Effect Trilogy (particularly ME3)

6) Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun

7) Unreal Tournament (UT99)

8) Quake 3 arena

9) GTA San Andreas

Top 6 are pretty much no brainers. The rest could probably alternate in and out with another 5-10 games. I basically quit gaming cold turkey in about 2005 and have since only come back to oldies in various levels of obsession.
