oh, uh idk much about other users, but i have a bandcamp here: https://etherbottle.bandcamp.com/

I really love the idea of this thread

Thanks, but, to be honest, I really want to avoid it becoming a wishlist/requesting thread. Of course anyone can request himself to be added for a thing or another, and the boundaries about who should be added are very fuzzy, but for you Bandcamp, I strongly prefer not to, because it seems your music has absolute zero connection to Doom modding, and I'm not sure if you ever had any map.

Donating to someone to do whatever they want is risky enough on its own, because once you get money, it's easy to lose control and spend on yourself rather than pouring it back to your project. Thus, I want to keep a quality standard here and include only those who contribute to directly Doom-related things, or at the very least used to do that in the past.

E.g. Nevanos rarely streams Doom nowadays but he's a great speedrunner. Or CoTeCiO who I'm not even sure ever made maps after Town Infection - but at the very least he did THAT! And also, for people like MajorArlene or Esselfortium above, it's not even a question since it's obvious they are still actively contributing and been doing that for years.

Sorry, no offense to you, it's just that halfway across I realized this thread can grow out of control pretty easily.

This is actually a great thread that can help a lot of cool people!

Yes, that was my goal exactly. Recently I've met far too many people who do art-related works and I noticed how much they rely on crowdfunding and how big of a difference can it make to have even just ONE permanent supporter for someone.

I have this long-standing principle that everyone should be able to live off of what they love doing, to not hate their job, but sadly alone I don't have enough money to support everyone.

oof, no no i absolutely get you!

For the record I do have a number of smaller projects but for the most part its just a dtwid repack thing and a mappack that rightfully nobody knows about (i do actually have a doom reimaging album in the works but its a ways off and is more "doom related" than "doom modding related"). There was a doom comic I was working on ages ago but idk that i have any pretense of continuing that project in that form although i definitely flirt with the idea a lot.

Most of my finished work is from when I was like 15 and is REAL terrible lmao, which I think is probably the case for a lot of people here.

On that note, a fair observation that vibes with your reply is that time is the most valuable currency, and a considerable bulk of why more of my stuff is unfinished right now is due to working basically 24/7.

But also, most community projects dont exactly need money, per se, and thats a part of this thread that I admittedly don't fully understand. I guess with regards to the Doom album I'm working on, that is something which money can contribute to.

I'm rambling now though!

Then I think it's the best for all of us to wait a bit with it for now.

Don't worry, I know what it feels. Since I'm making maps again, I literally didn't spend any time with anything else but work, Doom, and sleeping. This is unsustainable for the average person. That said, it's not a hundred bucks a month that's going to change it.

Hell, for most countries not even a thousand bucks would give you the self-confidence - and those numbers are already pretty fucking high up there. The only person on this list right now who earns four figures via Patreon is Decino and he doesn't even have a DW account.

So, while yes, I totally support giving money to mappers, there's just not enough supply of altruists for everyone opening an editor. Again, no offense, I may not have used the most politically correct words here but I can't put it any other way.

I definitely wanted to reply though because I think, rambling or not, it's a very interesting topic to discuss and this is the best place for it.

I would've linked my bandcamp page here, but since the only Doom related content there is "Atmospheric Extinction OST", maybe not.

For fucks sake, you created the music for a Cacoward runner-up and don't want to share your Bandcamp?! :O

I mean, alright, I rambled a lot above about standards and all (+ never played Atmospheric Extinction) but I think anyone who contributed to significant extent to major, or at least good quality releases should be on this list.

Then again, I can understand you're humble about it if you have no other Doom-related stuff on your music portfolio, but if you want to create more music for WADs and you think sharing your profile here would contribute to that, then feel free to do so, really.

hey, if you're curious about my doom music though! here's a preview track Ive been a bit inspired now to put out there: https://etherbottle.bandcamp.com/track/victory-the-end-of-doom-doom-1993

The reason that donations would contribute to this project for the record is because I made the mistake of doing the bulk of the work for this on Soundtrap last fall, which is a service that holds the lossless mixes of your music hostage if you don't pay a monthly subscription. I've since transitioned to using Ableton Live exclusively but theres a reason this specific project is kind of on an indefinite hiatus. I legitimately don't have the disposable money to acquire and release even some of my finished work.

I want to say in case it comes off that way but this isn't me trying to bid for my inclusion on the list haha. Moreso I think it's worth being transparent about what I kind of implied earlier.

Most of the songs there have a MIDIfied version available on my MIDI Pack (https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/music/velvmidipack), and since then I contributed to Alien Vendetta MIDI Pack and the OST for Abysm 2: Spirit Falcon expansion pack. And I plan to do more.

In any case, here it is: https://velvetic.bandcamp.com/

I figured it would be rude for me to self-advertise but since everyone else is doing it I guess it's fine.

almost everything's available for free tbh, I don't wanna leech, i'm just a weird bug on the periphery of a bunch of creative communities including doomworld and haven't really done anything you need to pay me for

@yakfak I added your itch.io page but it's a bit stretching on the boundaries; no problem for you, Doom Wiki has listed a lot of contributions to you, but I want every platform here to keep for people who would actually do something for, or close to the Doom community.

if I understood correctly, this income goes not only to him, but to a collective of several content creators? I don't know, still very high quality results that speak for themselves.

Yup can confirm! Anything raised via the patreon goes to funding the project which includes commissioned work, buying software (substance designer is expensive) and reimbursing the team for work already done, several of which are part of the classic doom community.

Speaking of, should add @PRIMEVAL to the list

Hi Katamori, thank you for the mention! :) I also have a Paypal, by the way.

I've got lots of cool stuff lined up for the community to use this year, any form of aid would be much appreciated!

Oh god, I didn't expect to see myself in a thread like this ever, I am very humbled to be included in this list, seriously!!

Regarding that, no, I have never released maps after Town Infection. I did, however, provide music, demos and beta testing for Doom 64 for Doom II.

I also recorded the entirety of the Doom soundtrack with my guitar and bass back in 2009, then I redid the project in 2014 alongside the Doom II soundtrack. I have that stuff uploaded in my Bandcamp, but I am not sure if that justifies its inclusion in the post? If not, that's alright, the sole fact that you mentioned me at all is more than enough for me. Seriously, thank you!
